Smt. Nirmala Rao is the daughter of the Ex- parliament member late Lakshmi Narsimha Rao and Late Smt Kausalya Devi. Her grandfather Sri Kasuganti Narayana Rao is renowned scholar. He was well known for his philanthropic worldviews, kindhearted nature and philosophical outlook towards the world. Smt Nirmala Rao inherited her grandfather’s leadership traits and enthusiasm for the language.
She is fluent in Telugu, Sanskrit, and Urdu. She passed Sarswat Parishat madhyama and she is Uttama in Hindi. She completed her education in Warangal district. Smt Bonala Nirmala Rao captained all girls team and received a memento from then prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and his sister Smt Vijata Lakshmi Pandit in 1951.
During the Razakar Movement, Smt Nirmala rao shifted to Mysore along with her family. In Mysore, she was trained in dancing, music and riffle shooting. She did her schooling from Madapati Hanumantha Rao high school. At the age of sixteen, she married the popular criminal lawyer, freedom fighter, philanthropist Sri Bonala Krishna Rao. Sri Krishan Rao was the convener for the Velama Vardhini and later was elected as the president of the same organization. He built a residential hostel for the Velama students.
With the encouragement from Sri Bonala Krishna Rao, Sri Nirmala Devi continued her education and passed her matriculation examination from the Andhra University. She joined the Reddy institute and completed her B.A education. She donated 9 acres of her most valuable land to the poor. She helped the government build Panchayath office. Remaining 4 acres land is sanctioned to the government school along with the residential hostel.
The hostel houses over 800 children housing young children who have discontinued their education, financially challenged and orphan children. Smt Nirmala Rao efficiently balanced her family life and her philanthropic social responsibilities. She is the embodiment of patience and perseverance and dedication.
Smt Nirmala Rao’s the Velama association’s active member since 1995. She was the committee member of Silver Jubilee celebrations. She left her mark as the girl’s hostel committee member, By-laws amendment committee member and as the two time Velama Association Vice president. She is re-instated as the vice president of Velama association for 2015-2018.
